Atomic absorption spectrometer

Technique

Atomic spectroscopy is a both a qualitative and a quantitative instrumental analysis technique, since a substance is decomposed into its constituent atoms by means of a flame. The quantity of each element present in the "atomic gas" is measured by the absorption or emission of ultraviolet or visible radiation by the atoms in the gaseous state.

Applications

  • Analysis of foods
  • Analysis of minerals
  • Quantitative analysis
  • Analysis of traces of heavy metals
